Photovoltaic Installations on Municipal Rooftops in El Prat de Llobregat

Construction supervision, legalisation and health and safety coordination of photovoltaic installations on 8 municipal building rooftops in El Prat de Llobregat

El Prat de Llobregat City Council is developing its energy transition strategy co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). With the aim of moving towards a more sustainable, democratic and resilient energy model, the rooftops of 22 municipal facilities are being used to generate clean energy primarily intended for self-consumption. Through the local energy community Energia del Prat, part of this production is also supplied to households, organisations and businesses, promoting energy justice and combating energy poverty. The initiative has become a replicable benchmark in Catalonia thanks to the diversity of buildings involved and the participation of both public and private stakeholders.

Esitec undertakes the construction supervision, legalisation and health and safety coordination for the installation of self-consumption photovoltaic systems on 8 municipal rooftops in El Prat de Llobregat.

The interventions include the supply and installation of photovoltaic modules, metal structures, inverters, electrical protection systems and connection to the existing electrical boards. Each facility incorporates a monitoring system that records in real time the energy generated, consumed and injected into the grid, ensuring compatibility with the City Council’s Sentillo platform for global supervision. The monitoring system also includes an accessible local display screen.

At the Vela Municipal Sports Centre, a 7.6 kWp photovoltaic plant consisting of 20 modules of 380 Wp is installed for individual self-consumption. At Escola El Parc, the rooftop is equipped with 170 modules of 380 Wp, reaching a total installed capacity of 64.6 kWp for collective self-consumption. Granja Torres — renowned as one of the few farms in Catalonia that breed the Pota Blava, a native blue-legged chicken species — incorporates 72 modules of 380 Wp with a total capacity of 27.36 kWp, also for individual self-consumption. Escola Joan Maragall is equipped with 108 modules of 380 Wp, totalling 41.04 kWp, as are the Town Hall Central Offices, which receive an identical installation with 108 modules and 41.04 kWp of capacity. At the Sagnier Municipal Sports Centre, 52 modules of 390 Wp are installed, achieving a total capacity of 20.28 kWp. At the Sant Jordi Civic Centre, a 59.94 kWp installation with 162 modules of 370 Wp is deployed and, finally, at Escola Ramon Llull, a 59.28 kWp photovoltaic plant consisting of 152 modules of 390 Wp is commissioned.

Overall, these interventions have resulted in the installation of 844 photovoltaic modules distributed across eight municipal rooftops, with a total installed capacity of 461.74 kWp. This has contributed to the city currently having the capacity to generate 1,225 kWh sustainably, optimising energy efficiency and strengthening the self-consumption energy model.
