Palace of the Counts of Centelles

Executive project and construction management for the rehabilitation of the Palace of the Counts of Centelles to transform it into a municipal library

The rehabilitation project for the Palace of the Counts of Centelles forms part of the municipal strategy to recover a historic building listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) and adapt it for contemporary public use as a library. The intervention is driven by the intention to preserve the palace’s heritage value, both architectural and symbolic, while providing the functional, accessibility and comfort conditions required for a cultural facility open to the entire community.

An executive installations project is carried out as part of the rehabilitation of the Palace of the Counts of Centelles for its use as a public library. The scope includes the design and sizing of the air conditioning, ventilation, electrical, telecommunications, sanitation, fire protection and lighting installations, adapted to a heritage building and to the requirements of a public-use facility.

Regarding the technical execution, a geothermal air conditioning system is designed based on a water-to-water heat pump and geothermal wells located in the garden, supplying underfloor heating, fan-coils and air handling units with heat recovery and CO₂ probe control. The ventilation system guarantees indoor air quality in accordance with current regulations through energy recovery systems. At the same time, a new low-voltage electrical installation is defined, including provision for a transformer substation, floor-based distribution boards and voltage stabilisation for sensitive lines. Lighting is resolved using LED technology and DALI control, integrating presence sensors and regulation according to natural daylight.

In the hydraulic field, a domestic cold water network is designed with a meter battery and an independent system for equipped fire hose reels (BIE). The drainage network is designed as a separate system, differentiating wastewater and rainwater, with an underground tank for rainwater harvesting and grease separators in the kitchen area. The telecommunications infrastructure is implemented using Cat 6A structured cabling and Spine-Leaf architecture, with a main rack, switches, WiFi access points and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system.

The results make it possible to transform the Palace of the Counts of Centelles into an efficient, comfortable and technologically updated cultural facility without altering its historic character. The incorporation of geothermal systems, heat recovery and high-efficiency lighting contributes to reducing energy consumption and improving the overall sustainability of the building. In this way, the intervention strengthens the role of the palace as a new cultural and social hub in Centelles, integrating heritage, technology and public service into a single coherent project.
