New urban park in Montornès Nord

Basic and detailed design project and construction management assistance for the urban installations of the new community urban park in Montornès del Vallès

The transformation of the former football pitch in Montornès Nord turns an emblematic but unused space into a new public, accessible and functional urban park. The intervention forms part of the urban renewal process in the northern sector of Montornès del Vallès and responds to the aim of creating high-quality green infrastructure capable of strengthening social cohesion and improving the urban environment. In an area affected by environmental and social imbalances, the project also incorporates the demands gathered through participatory processes with local residents to create a new urban park in Montornès Nord.

The intervention is aimed at recovering a former disused sports facility and transforming it into a lively green area integrated into the ecological context of Turó de les Tres Creus. The proposal prioritises inclusion, resource reuse and environmental regeneration as the main axes of the intervention, with the aim of strengthening the relationship between public space, the natural environment and quality of life.

The intervention also recovers the agricultural imagery of the area through ploughed surfaces and the incorporation of native species with a high CO₂ capture capacity. In this way, the new park not only addresses an urban and social need, but also becomes an active element within the local strategy for sustainability and the naturalisation of public space.

In collaboration with the architecture studio Hiha Studio, a project is carried out for the reuse of runoff water through SuDS and its channeling to an underground tank. Likewise, to maximise water infiltration into the subsoil and reduce the park’s water needs, a system of draining gravel trenches is designed. All this provides an environmentally respectful irrigation source for the trees and shrub species.

The replacement of sodium vapour lighting with programmable LED technology, adjustable point by point, is also highlighted. This improvement increases the energy efficiency of the space, reduces electricity consumption and optimises maintenance costs, contributing to more efficient management of the public infrastructure.

The result: the new Montornès Nord Urban Park generates a positive impact on the quality of life in the neighbourhood, encourages the social use of public space and improves the connection between the city and the natural environment. Ultimately, this intervention consolidates a much more sustainable and resilient model of urban planning in response to contemporary needs.
