The municipality of Orís, located in the comarca of Osona, has an extensive municipal drinking water network serving a widely dispersed population. This network, developed progressively over recent decades, combines modern sections with others that have become obsolete. In particular, the oldest sections have begun to show a high incidence of leaks and breakdowns, exacerbated by the area’s orography and high water pressure at certain points.
With the aim of improving efficiency and ensuring a stable, sustainable supply, the Orís City Council has launched a strategic initiative focused on renewing the most critical sections of the municipal drinking water network. This project is based on the findings of the latest update to the Municipal Water Supply Master Plan (July 2023).
An executive project and subsequent site management were carried out for the replacement of three specific sections of the low-pressure water network: La Teuleria, La Barnoia, and La Lladrera. The project includes specific actions tailored to the conditions of each area. In addition to replacing the pipelines, the project includes the installation of flow meters with remote reading to improve sectorised consumption management, as well as the implementation of valves and air release valves to ensure network safety and proper operation.
This intervention is expected to significantly reduce leaks and breakdowns and substantially improve service efficiency. The renewal of obsolete sections and the integration of monitoring technologies allow for optimized maintenance, ensure supply even during drought periods, and provide improved service to residents. Finally, the digitalization of the system marks a qualitative leap in municipal water management, aligned with the objectives of water resilience and rural sustainability.
